Bio

Thaddis Laphonia 'Kuk' Harrell is a Grammy-winning songwriter, vocal producer, arranger and engineer from Chicago, USA. Throughout his twenties, he worked primarily as a commercial writer and producer. This involved creating music for ad campaigns by the likes of McDonalds, Kraft, and Coca-Cola. He moved to Los Angeles in 1992, where he undertook jobs as a session singer, worship leader, and choir director. He then moved to Atlanta in 2004, where he set up RedZone Entertainment with two of his cousins. Harrell's big break as a vocal producer occurred in 2007, when he co-wrote and vocal produced the song 'Umbrella' for Rihanna. The vocal sound generated a lot of attention, and many artists soon approached him to help re-cut vocals. Kuk has since garnered an impressive list of credits that includes Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Rita Ora, Beyoncé, Carly Rae Jepsen, Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion, Cher, Usher, Ariana Grande, Pentatonix, Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Lorde, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar. In 2019, he was described by Sound on Sound magazine as the world's first and most successful specialist vocal producer.
