Mitchell Froom is an American producer, keyboard player and composer. He started his career in the eighties as a gifted session musician, however Froom’s career as a producer began when he was acclaimed for his production work on Del Fuego’s’ LP Boston, Mass in 1985 and Crowded House’s self-titled album one year later. By the end of the eighties, Froom had strengthened his status of promising producer, thanks to his collaboration with Richard Thompson’s album Daring Adventures among others. At the beginning of the nineties, Froom entered into a collaboration with the engineer Tchad Blake, whereafter, they worked together for over a decade with many successful artists such as Suzanne Vega, Los Lobos, The Bangles, Elvis Costello, The Corrs, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam. The two became one of the most influential duos in the music industry and well known for possessing a distinctive sound identity, characterized by reverb vocals, distorted texture and junkyard percussions.

Froom has produced over 60 albums, and has composed and produced music for numerous films. He has also been nominated for several Grammys, including Record of the Year for La Bamba by Los Lobos (1988), Producer of the Year in 1993 for both Kiko by Los Lobos and 99.9F° by Suzanne Vega.
