Bio

Phoenix is a French indie pop band from Versailles, France comprising Thomas Mars (lead vocals), Deck d'Arcy (bass, keyboards, backing vocals), Christian Mazzalai (guitar, backing vocals) and Laurent Brancowitz (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals).

They began releasing singles in 1999, the first of these being ‘Heatwave’ and ‘Party Time’, the latter of which would appear on their debut album, ‘United’. The single ‘Too Young’ was released on 22 May 2000, and was the band's first single to chart, reaching No. 97 in France and No. 148 in the UK. The album ‘United’ was released on 12 June 2000, and its third single ‘If I Ever Feel Better’ reached No. 12 in French and No. 4 in Italian charts.

At the time of writing, the band’s most successful album is ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’, which won Best Alternative Music Album at the 2009 Grammy awards. Shortly afterwards, the single ‘1901’ hit No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The album was certified gold.

At the time of writing, their sixth studio album ‘Ti Amo’ is their most recent, having been released on 9 June 2017. In the fall of 2019, Phoenix published a memoir titled ‘Liberté, Égalité, Phoenix!’, coinciding with their 30th anniversary as a band.
