Join us at the legendary Capitol Studios for a series on mixing ‘Lost in the Memory’ by Chris Walden Big Band! The most distinguished engineer in this style of music, Al Schmitt, takes you through his mixing process with the help of assistant Steve Genewick. You'll learn how the session is prepared by Steve, who details the track arrangement, I/O, inserts, sends, and overall setup with Pro Tools and the Neve 88R console. Al then takes over to mix the record, using only analog hardware for enhancing vocals, double bass, drums, brass section, piano, and guitar. Following his treatment on separate parts, he demonstrates how he adds a mastering-style sheen to the mix with multi-band compression and program EQ. He adds more excitement and final touches with level automation, refers to tracking techniques, and shares his philosophy on recording with the mix process in mind.
