Inside The Track #49
Join Eddie Kramer for a unique series on his revolutionary work with Jimi Hendrix! The legendary producer recounts his collaboration with the rock star, sharing details of the process behind their innovative records. He focuses mainly on the song ‘All Along the Watchtower’, playing stems through a vintage EMI-Neve console. Kramer gives you an exclusive listen to separate elements of the prized recording, sharing microphone techniques used, how he maximised the potential of vintage equipment, and the pioneering of creative new effects! Apart from gaining technical insight, you’ll learn the fascinating details of how Jimi wrote songs, recorded demos, conveyed his vision, partnered with musicians, and more. Albeit a step back in time to the 1960s, the experiences helped Kramer develop career-long approaches, still relevant when digitally emulating those analog processes today. Of course, he explains how to do this too!
Eddie Kramer has such an astonishing pedigree that his career description reads almost like the history of rock‘n’roll itself During the sixties and early seventies he was at the heart of the birth of rock, when he worked with the likes of The Kinks, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Traffic, John Mayall, The Small Faces, and most of all, Jimi Hendrix — Kramer engineered all four albums released during the guitarist’s life, as well as five Led Zeppelin studio albums.
