Bio

John Carpenter is a filmmaker and composer whose minimalist synthesizer scores helped define the sound of modern horror. Beginning with ‘The Resurrection of Broncho Billy’ (1970), he composed the music for a wide range of highly influential films, including ‘Halloween’, ‘Escape from New York’, ‘The Fog’, and ‘Prince of Darkness’. Built on repetition, simple motifs, and analog synths, his music has influenced generations of electronic producers, synthwave artists, and rock musicians.

In 2015, Carpenter released ‘Lost Themes’, his first album conceived outside film. Recorded with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, it launched a series that has since grown to four albums. Their project, ‘Cathedral’, pairs a new album on Sacred Bones with a graphic novel by Carpenter.
