Bio

Joseph Mount is the lead member and founder of Metronomy, a group that blends the genres of electronica, indie rock, and synth-pop.

He was born in Devon, England in 1982 and began his musical journey as a drummer in various bands at school. His first foray into electronic music started with him buying an iMac G3 computer and teaching himself how to make beats. He started Metronomy as a solo bedroom project in 1999.

In 2000 Mount went to study music and visual arts at Brighton University, then moved to London. In 2006 he released his debut album ‘Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe)’.

Metronomy’s lineup soon grew to include Oscar Cash (saxophone, backing vocals, guitars, and keyboards), Anna Prior (drums and vocals), Olugbenga Adelekan (bass guitar and vocals), and Michael Lovett (keyboards and guitars).

In 2011, the band’s third album ‘The English Riviera’ landed on multiple Album of the Year lists and garnered a Mercury Prize nomination.

At the time of writing, Joseph Mount lives in Paris and Metronomy’s seventh studio album ‘Small World’ is their most recent, having been released on 18 February 2022.
