Bio

Rostam Batmanglij is a producer, songwriter, artist, and one of the founding members of the American band, Vampire Weekend. The band’s reflective and understated sound cut through the wave of more aggressive indie rock that was prevalent during the late 2000s, bringing the band to international prominence.

From the outset, Rostam took on the role of the group's producer in addition to his contributions as a musician and songwriter. His signature songs and arrangements are immediately recognizable for their eccentric sound palettes, reflective lyrics, and detailed electronic ornaments. This sound won the band both critical and commercial acclaim and in 2013 they took home a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album for their seminal album, Modern Vampires of the City.

Around the same time, Rostam began lending his songwriting and production expertise to artists such as Charli XCX, Carly Rae Jepsen, Ra Ra Riot, and Hamilton Leithauser. Driven by his desire to explore new artistic ventures, Rostam left Vampire Weekend and began collaborating with a wider variety of artists as a writer and producer. This led to a burst of creative output that includes two solo albums as well as contributions to hit records by Frank Ocean, Solange, Lykke Li, and Maggie Rogers, and more recently serving as producer across entire full-length albums by Clairo (2019’s Immunity) and Haim (2020’s Women in Music: Part III).
