Apparently he sometimes sends a limited version and one without limiter. That way the mastering engineer knows what he was going for.

Yeah, the crazy long hours affect your judgement eventually. It's usually obvious when you start listening the next day and notice some weird EQ choices etc.

I assume that many need to think of this and produce, track and mix because of budgets. Sometimes you can also add mastering to it. So you work on it from start to finish.
