Filmed at his private studio Mix L.A. in California, this series reveals how CLA tackles a mix using only analog processing. He starts from scratch, opening the Pro Tools production session and taking you through his essential preparation stages. Chris explains the signal flow, shares his outboard gear of choice, and plays the raw signals. Upon getting a static balance, he launches into the impulsive sonic sculpting for which he is revered.

You’ll see how he addresses each element of the famous rock song, applying tasteful treatment with EQ, compression, and effects. He reiterates the importance of simplicity and using only the tools necessary for the job, showing how he can drastically enhance the audio in a straightforward manner. As always, CLA is as enlightening as he is entertaining!

Thank you so, so much, Chris! It is so cool that I got to learn how one of my favorite songs of all time was mixed. I've been trying to figure out for ages what connects all of my favorite artists together, and now I know it's how the music was made and who mixed it.

Hands down the best video thing I've seen in a while. You get to HEAR how the track builds and that is what's most important. It may seem like a complicated process but it's just that easy. Do your prep, don't overthink or over complicate and knock it out. Often people try to over compensate for recordings that are subpar by slaying it with plugins. Get it right at the source and the song will mix itself. From the start of this video, the sounds were there and CLA just made them gel together. That's what it's all about!

Great video! Would love to see more detail on what is actually in the chain, and what EQ settings he adjusted as others have mentioned. I'd love to know what he has on his parallel drum bus for instance, how hard he is hitting it, and how much it is then being blended back in.

Earlier videos the videography and editing crew did a better job of catching each change and what changes he was making. This video misses a lot of that. This is a miss for the video crew on this one.

It would be nice to see EQ settings on the the screen for everything he adjusts. That really should be included for the subscription price that is paid. The more information the better.

Great mix, but it’s unfortunate that we can’t see what’s actually going on with the knobs. I’m pretty sure some of the subtitled numbers doesn’t quite match the actual knobs…
