Description
Deconstruct the mix of this electrifying hip-hop anthem featuring two superstar artists. In this series, Leslie Brathwaite travels to Rue Boyer to revisit his work on “Bongos” by Cardi B ft. Megan Thee Stallion. Uncover the secrets to mixing collaborations and learn how to enhance groove and musicality from one of the world’s best engineers.
Leslie’s process is not based on meters or numbers – he tackles every mix with instinct. He balances and processes the tracks until he feels the groove lock into place. He explains how he achieves this using easy-to-use stock plugins and a few signature tools such as the Voice Of God and the legendary Fairchild 670.
Beyond the technical and sonic aspects, Leslie is responsible for balancing the personalities of two of the world’s biggest artists. This is where his experience comes to the fore, as he rides and refines the mix to ensure that both featured artists are presented at their best. His ability to hear the record from the artists’ perspective is one of the many qualities that set him apart in the industry, and he goes above and beyond to give his clients the full star treatment.
