About me

John Cobi is a Berlin-based mix engineer and producer with over 10 years of experience across singer-songwriters, latin, jazz, hard rock, blues, and his own solo art-pop project. He ran a fully analog studio for years before choosing to simplify, he now has a smaller setup for mixing, mastering, and overdubs, renting spaces as needed and putting all his energy back into the music. Outside the studio, he has fed wild hyenas (in ethiopia), jumped out of a plane at 13 (with a parachute), and regularly jogs barefoot through the woods.

    I love this man! Such a calm presence. Many simple yet super powerful techniques. The fact that he is basically using 3 plugins (for the most part) to create huge sounding hit records is fascinating and truly speaks of mastery. Chapeau Monsieur Wrench

    I second the question about how to gainstage such that one is hitting the Godparticle at -5dB no matter what. He is so happy about it hitting at -5 that it also seems more like a guidance principle that he applies that tends to work rather than a unbreakable system. However, I am very curious how this works. It appears to be something they talked about during the workshop before they start recording.
