Bio
Hans Zimmer is a score composer and music producer from Frankfurt, Germany.
During his childhood he was strongly influenced by the work of Ennio Morricone, and has cited Once Upon a Time in the West as the score that inspired him to become a composer.
Hans moved to London as a teenager, where he finished school and began his career playing keyboards and synthesizers with the band Krakatoa. Throughout the 70s he wrote advertising jingles and worked with a number of other bands including Buggles, Krisma, and Helden.
In the 80s Zimmer partnered with Stanley Myers, a prolific film composer who wrote the scores for over sixty films. Together, they worked on fusing traditional orchestral instruments with electronic sounds.
A turning point in Zimmer's career occurred with the 1988 film Rain Man. His otherworldly score, fusing synthesizers with steel drums, was nominated for an Academy Award. The following year, Hans relocated to Los Angeles and founded Media Ventures Entertainment Group, later rebranded Remote Control Productions.
He has since composed over one hundred and fifty scores, including The Lion King, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Hannibal, and Dune.
Hans Zimmer was inducted as a Disney Legend in 2019, and has won multiple Grammy and Academy awards.
