Bio

John Davis is a British audio mastering engineer from London, U.K.

He played in bands throughout his time at secondary school, then applied for a job at the BBC after sixth form. Davis became a clerk to a Radio 2 producer, recording cassettes of broadcasts off-air. He later moved to the Current Recordings Library, then CBS Studios tape library, where he began working in Mastering, starting in a role involving cassette tape duplication.

Mastering engineer Beryl Ritchie would delegate jobs to Davis, and one day he had the opportunity of working with The Human League. Through this encounter and contacts made in the London nightclub scene, Davis began his mastering career in the late 80s, cutting 12-inch singles for labels such as Ministry Of Sound, Boys Own, Classic, and Def Jam.

John stayed at CBS when it became Hit Factory London and subsequently Whitfield Street, then left after 19 years. He briefly relocated to Alchemy Mastering, then in 2007 moved to Metropolis Studios, from where he still works regularly.

John Davis has put the finishing touch on records by a multitude of prominent acts including The Killers, The Prodigy, Badly Drawn Boy, Gorillaz, The XX, FKA Twigs, Dua Lipa, Led Zeppelin, Lana Del Rey, Primal Scream, U2, Foals, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, HAIM, and Blur.
