Description
24 years after the release of Air’s revolutionary second album, the band’s mix engineer returns to unravel their sonic secrets. Watch Tony Hoffer remix ‘How Does It Make You Feel?’ from scratch using a vintage API console and a curated collection of analog gear.
Born and raised in the U.S., Tony shares the story of how he found himself in France working on Air’s highly anticipated follow-up to ‘Moon Safari’. He shares behind-the-scenes stories from the studio and details the original equipment used during the post-production and mixing sessions. He then embarks on a hands-on mix demonstration, crafting a brand-new version of the track more than two decades after its original release.
Using Rue Boyer’s API 2488 console, Tony lays out the multitrack and demonstrates how to reshape sounds using analog EQ, compression, and creative signal processing. He offers an intimate rundown of his API workflow, having used the desk extensively while working at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles. He also makes frequent suggestions on how to replicate his moves in the box, so whether you prefer working with digital or analog equipment, you will walk away with a deeper understanding of how to build a captivating mix from the ground up.
