Join us at Red Bull studios NYC for a series with the legendary producer and engineer Andy Wallace! Working on an SSL 9000 J console and Pro Tools, Wallace presents us with the stem session and mix of ‘Hallelujah’, as performed by Jeff Buckley. He gives an overview of how the album ‘Grace’ was made, from seeing Jeff play live, to pre-production, recording, and mixing. He describes the recording process and equipment used, then explains the console layout and demonstrates microphone signal differences using phase inversion. He then chooses specific reverb plug-ins to emulate the sound of the outboard units on the record. Using console EQ and compression alongside the plug-ins, he builds a hybrid remix to rival the original!
