Rediscover the art of analog recording with one of New York’s finest engineers. In his debut series, Philip Weinrobe revisits the recording and production of ‘anything’ by Adrianne Lenker, performing a live mixdown of the song straight to ¼” inch tape.

Recorded live in a remote cabin in rural Massachusetts, the song shows off the essence of Adrianne’s virtuosic songwriting and guitar work. Philip walks through their complete creative process, unpacking everything from arrangement and instrument preparation to microphone placement, signal processing and more. He explores the creative potential of binaural and omnidirectional microphones, showcasing how these tools can forge deeper connections between artists and their listeners.


Philip goes on to remix the song from scratch using a vintage API console and a collection of outboard gear. Watch as he refines the 8-track arrangement in real time, shaping the mix with colorful EQ, compression, and manual rides that bring all of the emotion to the surface.
