Description
Discover a new-school approach to record-making, where fans pick the artist's repertoire, and songs are recorded and released faster than ever. Recently nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys, sombr heads into the studio with co-producer Tony Berg and mixer Shawn Everett for a look at the making of his ultra-viral hit single ‘12 to 12’.
sombr walks through an early, unreleased version of the song, isolating the chords, melodies, and equipment that inspired it. Together with Tony Berg, he explores how the track evolved in the studio, using a combination of modern and vintage tools to create the ‘sombr’ sound. Tony underlines the important role that traditional studios can play in today’s music landscape, expanding on his takeover of the historic Sound City Studios, as well as the importance of new production tools and social platforms.
Shawn Everett joins in remotely from his own studio in LA, where he breaks down the unconventional mixing process for the song. Learn how he is using AI-powered tools to enhance his creativity in the studio and watch him deconstruct his signature techniques for tonal balance, transient enhancement, and mix bus processing.

Five-Day Seminar in Paris
Join producer and A&R veteran Tony Berg for a five-day production seminar in Paris from November 23 to 27, 2026.
Tony produced Phoebe Bridgers' Stranger in the Alps and Punisher, records that defined a generation of American songwriting and earned four Grammy nominations. At Rue Boyer Studios, he will work through his process from song and arrangement to casting, tracking, and performance, and show how a record takes shape, decision by decision.
In addition to his work with Phoebe Bridgers, Tony has produced for boygenius, Fiona Apple, Andrew Bird, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Edie Brickell, the Replacements, Sarah McLachlan, Molly Tuttle, and sombr.
Over four decades he has moved between the studio and the label side, signing Beck, At the Drive-In, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club as an A&R executive at Geffen, and mentoring a generation of producers and engineers including Shawn Everett, Blake Mills, and Ethan Gruska. He works today out of Sound City Studios in Van Nuys.
This is not a session about a single sound or genre. Over five days, Tony will focus on production as judgment: serving the song, choosing the right players and instruments, creating a room where performances happen, and knowing which take is the one. Designed for working producers, engineers, and artist-producers across all genres, the seminar shows how those decisions carry into any studio and any budget.
