Description
Chris sets up shop at Rue Boyer for a fresh look at his Grammy-winning mastering process. Outside of his comfort zone at Sterling Sound, he talks through his experience of adjusting to a new studio. You will learn how he adapts to new listening environments and how he achieves consistency and quality behind any board.
Chris’ skill set and discography is incredibly diverse, and you will get to experience how he approaches a wide range of creative material. From major label pop and country stars like Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek and Maren Morris to self-produced indie bands, he adapts his process to serve the needs of every project. Chris refines these tracks using different limiters and EQs. Each tool has a distinct sound, and he compares and combines them to achieve the best results possible.
Beyond the music, Chris shares stories from his early years coming up in the industry. He recounts some of the wisdom he gleaned from his mentors Tom Coyne and Herb Powers, and he discusses key philosophies that have kept him at the forefront of the industry for many years. He shares strategies for attracting new clients and working outside of your comfort zone. This open-minded attitude is what has laid the foundations for Chris' long-standing career as one of the world’s most in-demand mastering engineers.

About Chris Gehringer
Chris Gehringer is an American mastering engineer born in Teaneck, New Jersey and raised in Bergen County. He attended the Institute of Audio Research after high school, then landed his first music industry job at Greene Street Recording. From there, he went on to work as a cutting assistant at Trutone Records. In 1985, Gehringer joined Frankford-Wayne Mastering, then moved to the Hit Factory in 1988 where he spent twelve years.
